Lexar Media Firewire Compact Flash Card Reader
Portable FireWire CompactFlash Reader
Manufacturer: Lexar Media
product review by Rolando Gomez
The Lexar Media Firewire Compact Flash Card Reader is the latest of digital camera card readers available to the digital photographer. What makes this card reader special is that it connects via Firewire (IEEE-1394 compliant) to your computer versus the much slower USB card readers.

I personally own a Lexar Media Fireware Compact Flash Card Reader and can upload images to my computer much faster, thus saving me production time when I have to dump the images to my hard drive. Every second counts when I use large compact cards with my Nikon D100 and have captured hundreds of images.
Lexar Media Firewire Compact Card Flash Reader

This card reader is compact and portable, hooks up rather easily with just one simple Firewire cable and provides for simple “drag and drop” of my files to my computer. The beauty of the Lexar Media Firewire Compact Flash Card Reader is that it requires no external battery or power, it runs right off the power supplied by the computer via the Firewire cable.

The Lexar reader will save your camera batteries if you’re used to plugging your camera directly to the computer and using the camera as the reader, especially if you have a camera model that only has a USB connection, like the Nikon D100 and others, and not a Firewire connection, not to mention, while I’m still shooting with one card, I can be downloading my previous card into my laptop or minitower.

It’s Mac and Windows compatible and has an LED (Light Indicator) that flashes when information is being transferred, and because it is Firewire ready, I can plug the reader into my computer without shutting down and rebooting, especially since it requires no driver for today’s modern operating systems.

The Lexar Media Firewire Compact Flash Card Reader comes with free technical support and a two-year limited warranty. Street price is around $49.95 and includes Firewire cable.
