My mouse just bit the dust. I am thinking of getting a track ball this time. Does anyone know the pros and cons of the track ball ? I use it most for editing pictures.

Over the last 19 years I have owned them all; mouse, mouse with scroll wheel, track ball, track pad, tablets. For editing pictures I would go with a tablet and pen, preferably wireless. For normal use I would go with a multi-button mouse with scroll wheel, again wireless if possible.

Wacom Tablet if you can afford it! You don't need the biggest. 6x7 or so. Best $300 I ever spent. My experiences with trackball left me with a case of carpal tunnel syndrome. The mouses have never bothered me. I love the wireless by Microsoft. some of the logitech ones were not as accurate.
By the way large doses of vitamin B12 or 6 (can't remember which) cleared up the carpal thing and I have never been bothered since.

I am on a computer for 12-14 hrs a day... A trackball will give you carpal tunnel syndrome........... I should know.... I went for 6 weeks of not sleeping because of it... those things suck!!

TrackBall is good if you ever have any intention of playing the classic "Centipede" video game and thats about it. Wacom Tablet if you have the spare dough. Nice optical mouse is good for almost everything. Unles you have one of those MAC donut mice things...I still haven't figured out their one button function. I'd second or third the vote on an optical multi-button and a Wacom Tablet. Look at the Graphire 3 range, half the price of the Intuos and the only thing it lacks if the angle sentitivity.

I have a Graphire 3 6x7 and a Microsoft Optical mouse, I use the mouse with my right hand (buttons and wheel scrolls) and the pen in my left (being ambidextrous does have an advantage with this), dual monitors (19" for the photo and 17" for the tools) and it make life a lot easier doing manipulating the photos.
