50/1.4
70-200/2.8IS
85/1.2
135/2

Depends if you plan to use a tripod and how big your budget is. You can always up your ISO. I find 1600 still usable and if you get excessive noise there is software to fix that.

Jayson, or anyone for that matter, is the 20-105 2.8 better than the 28-75XR? Or are they a suited for different purposes? I have been debating on a lens to become my main lens for my 300D and I had the Tamron 28-75 2.8 as my leading candidate because I have heard that the focus speed is very good and that the lens is pretty sharp, but I have seen more people mentioning the 28-105 recently so now I am unsure.

Two suggestions.... Pick up a used 17-35L....which is a f2.8....or a 20mm f2.8 prime... You could pick up a 16-35 but you will probably have to pay for a new one and they're roughly 1500.00 I still use my 17-35L.... It's not the best thing in the world....and I traded my 20mm for it..which I am looking for a used one at the moment Oh... and I shoot with 10D's too..

I worked with a guy at the paper who had a Sigma 20mm f1.8 ....and compared to my lens....it was quite soft wide open... just get a solid tripod....remove the cork pad...and lock that puppy down while you're on a tripod.. As for a telephoto lens.... I wouldn't settle for less than a 70-200mm f2.8 L IS lens if doing weddings was your main thing... The 24-70 L is another fine lens which works very well for those group shots...or couple shots coming down the isle... I own the 28-70L ...and would just love the 24-70....(soon) because sometimes, you can just get a little bitty bit too tight..because of the 1.6 crop factor.. As for the 3.5-5.6 lenses...in some churches where you can't use flash....they are nearly worthless....and there's no feeling like...."I wish I had"...when you're faced with ambient light only and 1600 iso. 1/30th 5.6 I'd rather have iso 400 and 1/30th @ f2.8....besides...it's not just about shooting in lower ligh, but the brilliance of shooting with L lenses vs something else is clear when seeing the images side by side on a light table...or in our case these days...on our monitors.. The L lenses were designed for chrome film in mind....and what they do for the color saturation.,...and resolution power is not like the consumer zooms at all..

I hope your budget can afford these lenses..

JP

Jason

How does the Tamron 28-105 2.8 compare with Canon L glass?

I would go with the Canon 24-70L and shoot at 400 or 800 iso.

if you cant afford the L glass, I highly recommend the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 Di. Awesome little zoom for only $329. the AF is slower, but I recenty did a wedding with this lens and I am pleased with the results

Also used a canon 50mm 1.8 also
