Last Thursday I was in the studio photographing the scars on a person that had been in an accident for an attorney. My Nikon D-100 started to flash ERR, and it only made a clicking sound. So I went out of the camera room and removed the lens and looked inside and low and behold the sensor was laying on the bottom of the inside blocking the mirror from working. I looked deeper and I could see the shutter. The camera is still under warranty (thank GOD). I just couldn't believe that the sensor could fall out, and it had nothing attached to it. I took it back to where I bought it and the owner said "thats impossible, a sensor can not just fall out of a camera". When he opened it up he said "O s#%! the sensor did just fall out". This is just unbelievable, this is the third major nikon issue in 5 months.
1st a lens (24-120mm) that fell apart when the camera that it was on was hanging around my neck, 2nd a SB-80DX that was shooting at full power all the time (nikon sent me a new SB-800DX in place of that, and now the D-100 that the parts just fall out of. Don't stand in under any Nikon equiptment without a hard hat.

You know, I have all Nikon gear and was thinking of just going with the D100 because I can't afford to switch everything to Canon. Well, after reading this I'm not so sure that it wouldn't be in my best interest to just go with Canon and slowly replenish my lens cache. I'm still tossing the idea around of going with the Fuji S2 just so I can keep my Nikon stuff but Canon still seems to be pulling away from Nikon. Go figure.

Good day sir!

Mike

Okay I feel bad for ya, but before I jump on the trash Nikon Train. I have two Nikon D1Xs, seven different lenses and I shoot about 6000 images a month. I'm not seeing problems. I don't know if you are just unlucky, or it is the difference between a D100 and a D1X, or you treat you equipment pretty hard, but I haven't had the same issues.

I agree to a degree. I've had the opportunity to use the D100 and the D1X and the D1X I would take any day but it's my budget that determines EVERYTHING in my life and the D1X just ain't happening in my lifetime. I guess I should have clarified that in my post. I would LOVE to keep my Nikon equipment and get a D1X or the newer D2 umpty squat but I can't afford to even pick up free literature for either one. That being the case, I have to consider other viable alternatives; the S2 or the 10D. I know what you're thinking; you're thinking that if I just saved up what I would spend on new Canon glass, I could afford the D1X. I guess that's definitely worth considering as well. I sure wish I had a retirement check like yours, Mike. Then I could fund my money sucking photography business.

Good day sir!

Mike remember if you cough up a lung there's money in that.

Glad to hear that health is around the corner.
