I will be doing a Photo Shoot at a Beach. Should I use any kind of Filter. I will be using my Nikon D1X w/28 to 105mm f2.8 lense.
Thanks

I hope this isn't new advice to you but I think your most important filter is a UV haze or sky filter to protect your front element, the beach can be extremely harsh on equipment. That being said I tend to stay away from CC filters, but might use a Circ Polar if the sun is right. Much of your decision rests with when you plan on shooting, an 81A can work well to warm up the skin tones. On the other side a soft focus is fun to play with also for effect. In the end the choice is yours obviously, I just stay away from most filters and try to concentrate on controlling the lighting.

I shoot at the beach a LOT. Having never shot digital, I can't tell you if it makes a difference from film, but generally the only filters I use are UV (and it protects the front element of the lens) and the occaisional 81A or 81B if its overcast. Sometimes I will gel a fill flash to match the color temperature of the sun, but that's about it. I've played with Polarizers, but since I use manual exposures and the models move around a lot in the water, its really hard to make sure the exposure is correct, although with digital you would get to see that. The other thing is I shoot mostly Velvia, which is pretty saturated as it is, and seems to cut through a lot of the haze on its own. These shots of Mary Riley were done with no filters. The top one on Velvia, the bottom on Astia.
