Any help would be appreciated. I need to quickly buy a flatbed scanner for an upcoming project. Thought about the Epson 2450, but am reading it doesn't mesh with Mac's Jaquar (OS X 10.2) operation system. Do any of you Mac guys have any recommendations? Should I not worry about the problem when my Mac has OS 9.2 that should handle it? Thanks.

This shareware (40.00) will drive a wide array of scanners under 10.2 I use it with my Canon, since Canon cant seem to put out a OSX compatible driver.

Also, be very wary of any claims from scanners about OSX compatibility, Several of them claim it, only to disclose "comming soon" or "via the os9 "classic" envirorment"

I use the Epson 2450 with Jaguar just fine. I think I had to do some digging at epson's website to find the "Epson Scanner Enabler." If you have trouble finding it, email me as I may have it bookmared on the studio computer.

If you're in a bind and need a quick scan of a print, you can use Image Capture - albeit not as robust in adjustments.

Another possibility is to use Hamrick software's VueScan which, as it seems to support most scanners, eliminates the need to worry about propriatary drivers. I use it with Jaguar and a HP scanner and have been very happy with the ease of use, stability and results.

Good luck!

The 2450 works fine w/9.2.2, as you mentioned, and there's a driver for Jaguar on a site linked from the Epson USA website. You have to look around for it, click a few times. Works great, better than the driver for 9.2, and easier to use than VueScan, in my opinion.

My 2450 sometimes has problems scanning silver-based B&W film, truncating the scans prematurely. It doesn't happen often, but only on images you really, really want. Same problem, same frequency w/Kodachrome. I've tried turning the negs, moving them in the holders, even physically inverting them or scanning as positives -- eventually something usually works. If not, the SilverFast prog. included w/the scanner will do the trick, but it works only in OS 9.2 (at least mine does).

Otherwise the scanner is fine, esp. w/med. format.

Good luck.

Thank you all for your input. I bought the EPSON 2450 for my Mac G4 Dual 1.25 G, HD Cinema 23" monitor on Jauguar 10.2.1. I didn't intall the included drivers, but instead downloaded the epson10588.sea driver from the EPSON support site and it works beautifully. Because I had an immediate project to scan 1920s era black and white prints, I don't know what ll this scanner can do, but so far it is awesome. Speedy, extremely sharp. The Epson Twain 5 shows up in the "Import" menu in my Photoshop 7 and worked without a hitch.

I would show you all one of the scans, but it's 1920 nurses and doctors and hospital shots. Not real sexy stuff.
