I've been away from photography far too long. The labs I used to work with have vanished.

Do any of the NJ members (or anyone else) know of a decent E-6 lab in northwestern NJ (Sussex, Morris, Warren, etc. county) that processes 35, 120, sheet film, knows how to pull a clip test without blowing the roll, has decent quality control, knows how to push and pull in 1/4 stop increments and is fairly consistent and reasonably priced?

Yeah, I'm a dinosaur. I shoot film. Digital may be in my future, but right now I'm still catching up with changes in film emulsions that crept up during my away time. Too many changes all at once.

Thanks to all in advance.

They are all folding around here, another thing that made me go digital.

I could usually suggest a bunch of labs, but since I went digital I have found that most of the labs in my area have folded. Dare I say Fairlawn and Kodak?

Out of the labs I usually went to, one remains. TPI (Technical Photo Imaging) they are in Pio Costa center off of Route 46 in Fairfield, NJ (essex county I know)

Out of your way I know, but all I know

Unique Photo Inc. still sends out to Kodak labs, we are in florham park if you need us.

Jason,

Thanks.

Yeah, there used to be a decent lab in any 10 mile circle (3 or 4 within a few miles of the studio in Randolph) but they seem to have quietly folded up their tents and vanished into the smoke of memory and nostalgia. I used to be amazed at what a good lab guy could do with alomost any reasonable screwup. But then, I also remember "cut and butt" page assembly, internegs and retouching dyes.

As I recall, Kodak (Qualex?) in Fairlawn had issues with quality control and consistency, not to mention full roll pricing for clips and double or better charges for push/pull. Maybe it's different now, but I don't really see why it should be. I'm sure their E-6 volume isn't what it used to be.

Does Pro-Set still process in house? Or are they just B&H West now?

Maybe I'll just retire all my equipment and stay home. Miss it too much, though.

Thanks again for the info. I'll keep searching. Maybe someone is doing dip/dunk in their basement.

Fairlawn has had issues lately that have supposedly since been fixed. I twas issues of not mixing the chemicals right. Finding a dip and dunk might work, Pro Set is downsizing, and honestly since going digital for about the past 2 years, just havn't looked. Will keep my eyes open and let you know of anything I find.

Best of luck in your search

Not mixing chemistry right could be a small problem, especially for a Kodak certified lab. Amazing that the doors are still open.

Anyway, thanks for the information. I apparently have some catchup to play.
