Lovely image Bob. Here's my take. While I am an Epson guy I have been in the Corporate world and I have never read anything that would convince me that any company that is 'publically traded' will ever have anyone's best interest at heart above their stock holders. After all that is how CEOs and their team maintain their jobs. With that said, photographers (as with most artists) have their likes and dislikes. If there was one printer that everyone agreed was the hands down best then we would not be playing around in this thread etc. As soon as you buy a Canon, or an Epson, or an HP something will happen in the technology sphere to slap you in the face and say 'Hey, these guys now have a better printer!' Take all feedback as feedback and then make a gut decision. After that move on and expect that you will inevitably be faced with another printer decision a few years from now.

Just picked up a re-furbished 1280 for $239 [$284 with shipping and insurance]. Comea with 1 year Epson warranty. There is a bunch of 1280's on eBay right now.
Bought my 1270 the same way [re-furbished] and am converting it to dedicated b&w. FWIW

I do mostly black and white, 8 1/2 X 11's and 11 X 14's. What is nice is the option on the 1280 to use the black cartridge only. Two benefits, gets color cast out of prints and they are about half as expensive as the color. I never like the use of color inks to make black.
