I'm trying to print on my 2200 and getting horrible results.

It's 11x14 at 300 dpi on 13x19 paper.

The image is a bride against a deep orange and red sunset. She is lit from the side.

There is a great deal of black in the image and there lies the problem. My blacks are all coming out about 15% gray giving it a look akin to solarization. While this is a "groovy" effect, the bride ain't gonna like it.

Any suggestions?

Hellllp,
Bruce

Tried another image.

Window lit portrait. Highlights came out fine. Shadows reversed tones again.

If you have not had previous problems with similar images, I would start with replacing the ink cartridge(s). While I do not have an Epson 2200 I do have an Epson printer. I have had unexplained bad printing fixed by replacing the offending cartridge, even though the printer said it wasn't time.

Color profiles can also create havoc. I was getting really bad results until I made some changes in the specifications. I won't make any recommendations because my color space is probably very different. But, this could be a potential problem area to look at.

Anyone with another suggestion feel free to jump in. Trouble shooting at this distance is sometimes a black art.

There was a tiny bit left in the old one. Maybe I should stick it back in to see if that solves my prob.

The closest dealer with that size ink cartridge is an hour away.

try printing at a higher resolution.

Also give us a look at the image, do a shot of it, let us see it.

I know a few other ideas but I need to see what your problem looks like.

Hope this helps

I had a problem similar a few weeks back. Unfortunately for you the only way I solved it was to replace all the cartridges.

Bruce,

While I don't own the printer yet I have been looking at buying one and have done a lot of research on it. 2200's are notorious for having pronblems similar to what you describe when printing on glossy stock. If it's what I'm thinking of it's often refered to as bronzing. Try printing onto any other type of stock and see if the problem goes away. Might save you a lot of ink.

The problem occurs regardless of stock. Epson denies it but many have resorted to RIPs to get around it. I believe it is more dependent upon how cartridges were stored and were they exposed to extreme changes in temperature over the course of transit. My problem went away when all new cartridges were installed. I have been slowly adding the partially used cartridges back to determione the offenders but I amj convinced it is not the printer it is some cartridges. Have a happy New Year and stay safe.
