There's not going to be a war. Keep in mind as I'm saying this that I'm all about me some Nikon.

The whole point of the cheap SLR was to snap new customers who might eventually make the leap to the D100/10D or even higher. Nikon has moved sloooooooooooowly as always and unfortunately Canon done already snagged most of 'em.

What I was hoping for was the whole "Well we rushed and got the D30 to market before Nikon got the D100, but it sucks cause we're impatient and immature so we're gonna have to upgrade it TWO MORE TIMES before we get it 'right.' Meanwhile, the D100 will become established demonstrating that hasty isn't always the best course of action." fiasco again. Unfortunately the 300D seems to work, so Nikon is #*$#ed in the a$$ets.

Just my 3 cents (my opinions are worth just a little more )

I had a brief flash of regret at reading this. I had used a point and shoot Nikon digital (Coolpix 950) for several years and loved the camera, I was totally prepared to be a Nikon loyalist and was about to buy me the Nikon 5700 as a much needed upgrade when the Canon 300D came out. I had always wanted a DSLR but really since I am not a pro could not justify the cost to myself, besides I really didn't have the money to buy a 10D or better then add on lenses.

So at that moment I basically became a Canon guy, and I know that there will be another camera around every corner but I had played that game for the past couple of years wating for that one next thing. What finally drove my purchase and got me past my regret at not waiting for the Nikon is that I decided that taking pictures with a camera is better than researching and waiting for the perfect model.

My 7.75 cents worth.

I'm confused by your post. Nikon has had several digital SLRs and each one has been a little better than the previous one. How is Canon any different? The main thing Canon seemed to do was have a better price and thus won a large share of the market. I think they should be praised for bringing the digital SLR revolution to the masses. Here is one of my Canon 10D shots.

Cheers,
rfs

I too am an EX Nikon user. I sold 3 bodies and all lenses to step UP to Canon. There have been several Nikon guys convert to Canon in the last couple of months and Nikon continues to fall behind.

Remember the Edsel?

Being an ex Nikon shooter, I've played around with the D100 and the only thing it has established is making me glad I switched to Canon 2 years ago. The D100 isn't near the camera as the 10D.

Yeah, they should be praised, that was my point. Nikon's slackin off, they should have had the D70 out back around the same time the 300D came out, because the competition would have then made both cheaper.
