If my Nikon digital camera is recording f4 for a shot, is that the same as a 35mm camera f4 equivalent?

yes because your circles of confusion are caused by the relationship of the lens and diaphram and not the "film"

what ISO is the Digicam set on vs what real life film speed are you using? Assuming that you have the D1/2 set at ISO 200 and you are using ISO 200 film (set at ISO200) then they should be VERY close. However, I am seeing that my D2H is a bit "hot" when compared to my D1...but I do not have any scientific testing done yet to prove/disprove that theory...

I answered in reference to the depth of field. In reference to the other part of question I now SEE...(I have my own circles of confusion). I have noticed with my D100 that that "200ASA" with it comes up hot with the normal 200asa rating from my Sekonic flash meter.

Might be useful if I get a good defined "difference" then I can use my digital camera LCD as a digital polaroid for film shoots.
