picture viewing software, does anyone know of a good "EASY" one. Reason I ask. I like to give my clients a CD-ROM of the images from a shoot. I have tried loading a number of different picture viewing softwares on the CD which works, however I find myself having to do 45 minutes of tech support for the client to install the software.

Does, anyone have any ideas on a idiot proof picture viewing package, one that can be put on the clients CD???

Not necessarily impresssive, but they know how to work it, and they all have it.

Naturally, I personally hate everything Microsoft.

Flip Album Pro lets you create a photo album that looks like one. It also protects your images very well.

I like picturestoexe because it allows you to add titles, make it so they cannot copy and you can change backgrounds, music etc.

The best one I've found is something called Irfanview. I've been using it for 8 years now. It has some basic picture cleanup features, and you can make a slideshow that can be viewed on a computer. Best of all, it's FREE. They have a website, www.irfanview.com. I used it as my viewer until I got Windows XP, I still use it quite a bit though.

I use CompuPic Pro 6 from photodex. It is a very straight forward management/viewer utility....and you can create a Photo CD that also has the freeware version of the CompuPic software embeded in it. So basically when the client puts the CD in the tray and closes it, the autorun installs the freeware and then they are off to the races.

good luck!

Not everyone has Photoshop. At $650 direct from Adobe (found on-line for as little as $400 -- $200 if you don't ask any questions or register it), it's a bit on the pricey side - especially for folks who just need to tweak an image. Photoshop is overkill for adjusting contrast or color saturation or sharpness.

Me - I use Paint Shop Pro 8.1 -- less than $100. Add on Photo Album v4 for about $40, and you have the makings of a nice suite of graphic and presentation tools for FAR less than Photoshop.

but the person asking the question is a full time photographer and I feel confident that he has Photoshop at his disposal. All the other programs are nice but I doubt that they want you packaging their software with your CD-ROM full of images that you have sold, unless you're shooting for free but every shoot has value. ACDSee is a great viewing program but let them find out that you're giving away their software on CD's.

Although Photoshop is pricey, it's also the industry standard because my guess is it will out perform all the others. Look at it like a light meter or that f/2.8 lens. It's something that any serious photographer should look into owning. If you know any students in college, you can obtain an academic version from Adobe for $299. (2 years ago) and it is the complete, full blown version.
