I've got a guy that wants to sell me 2 strobe's with 2 stands and 2 unbellas with the 880 + power unit for $550. Does anyone know anything about this unit and is it a fair price ? I was thinking about 2 800 Alien Bees. What do ya think? tommymc

Sounds like a good deal to me.

Make sure the heads can handle a 880 watt second head. Older heads could only handle 500 watt seconds.

I've used Novatron gear for quite some time, it's ok stuff.

Now, for the down side... If you're planning on using these heads with light modifiers other than umbrellas, it's a slight pain in the butt to attach speed rings to these things. Also, don't plan on using heavy (like 6' tall) softboxes with the standard head. There's nothing to really hold the weight.

If you want to use that sort of stuff, think about getting some bare bulb heads. You'll get better light and easier mounting.

make sure all the sockets pop and like Bill said check for the newer heads or the resistors will blow quick with the higher watt setting.

Mine get banged around all the time and keep rocking, little less control than Normans but nearly the same rugged construction.

I think they are good lamps, I would jump on that deal myself.

Good luck,

Stu
