If you have a 28-105 lens it is now a 42-158mm lens. Unless you have a full frame sensor (1ds, 14N) all of your lenses focal lengths are basically getting multiplied by 1.5 or 1.6 depending on the camera.

Hard to get the good wide angle lenses now a days, thats why many manufacturers are now coming out with say 18-55mm lenses.

Which gives you basically a 30-60, a 42-157, and a 105-315 as for the teleconverter...well ya got me...

The 1.5 factor does not change the focal length of the lens. It only changes the field of view. A 50mm lens remains a 50mm lens but only gives you the field of view of a 75mm lens.

A 50mm lens with a 2x tele-extender is still 100mm lens but with a field of view equal to 150mm lens.

The sensor cannot change the focal length of a lens. Because the sensor is smaller, it is looking through a smaller portion (image circle) of the diameter of the lens.

No, it is NOT like using a 1.5 teleconverter.

What it is, is precisely this: Cropping down to the center part of your 35mm negative.
