hello!
anybody got any comments on the sigma 17-35 mm f2.8-4 EX or the sigma 15-30 mm f 3.5-4.5 EX ?
i'm wanting to get a wide angle lens for my canon 10D and wanted to go with sigma because of expense, but have heard and read about as many good as i have read bad reviews from consumers about both.
can any one tell me which would be the best choice?

if you have another lens in mind i would appreciate your comments...
thanks,
mike allen

Mike,

I dont have any experience of those exact lenses but I do with the 70-200 hsm.

I find the Sigma a fantastic lens, fast, sharp very dependable.

I also just had it serviced at Sigma for a problem with it not working with the S2, the turn around was amazing !!!!!

Sigma rules.

If you would like to see what I do with mine, take a peek here

hello david,
your pictures look great!
thanks for replying.....
i have read that the 17-35 (by consumers) lacked sharpness, not focus, and one had a diaphragm problem. the 15-30 was reccommended to me by sigma, but it has a non-removable hood which i'm not crazy about.
i'm no stranger to sigma, a sigma 50-500 on my minolta maxxum 7, and have not had any problems with it so far....

regards......mike

I use the 15-30 all of the time with my 10D. It is a great lens. Normally I only use Canon L glass, but a friend had this for sale and after using it I fell in love!

I have the Sig 15-30 and find it to be a very sharp lens. I have used it with an S2 and now a D100. I have no complaints for this lens.

The lens is 5 inches long so it is kind of bulky and weighs 1.3 lbs because of the solid construction. The size and weight don't bother me but it's something to keep in mind.

The lens cap is two pieces consisting of a metal adapter that slips over the hood plus the actual cap. I leave the adapter on all the time and don't get any vignetting because of the smaller CCD sensors. Keep in mind that this lens does not take front-mounted filters unless you are willing to put up with some vignetting by mounting the filters on the adapter ring. This requires 82mm filters.

Unique Photo. Jayson, the self-proclaimed "counter boy" (soon to be promoted to "counter man" I think) can hook you right up. Check out www.uniquephoto.com and I'm sure you'll find them to be very competitive with anyone else you look at. Jayson is 'da man' though.

Good day!

Hi Mike,

Mike here. I have a Sigma 24-70Dmm f2.8 that is awesome and I also have a 70-200mm f2.8, HSM Aspherical. Both are tremendous! Very fast focus, very sharp pictures. I don't think you'd be disappointed but I have no experience with the particular lenses you asked about. Just wanted to share my two cents about my Sigma products.

Good day!
