I am not sure if it is worth it to buy the 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor . Right now I have the 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED-IF AF-S Zoom-Nikkor on my D100 and I love it. But I would like to use something around a 105mm or maybe a little wider. I am doing more beach shoots wanted to hear from any people that might know what I will get over and above my 24 mm - 28mm lens. Should I just get a 105 mm lens ?

Talk to me..

Mike

I purchased one a short while back, and it rarely leaves the camera. Need a wide aperture for nice backgrounds? You've got it...bokeh on a par with the 85mm 1.4. Need to slow down the shutter for blurred motion? Stability at full zoom down to a 1/20th of a sec. HANDHELD. It's been a near-religious experience. Remember, you've got a 105 to 300mm equiv. crop going on here...and that long end is incredibly flattering to the female face and form.

Here's a shot of Mayan Lee, 1/125th @ f/3.3, 200mm (300mm equiv.). Straight from camera (Fuji S2), no retouching - just added the copyright, rotated and resized.

(shot through leaves to achieve the effect)

Highly recommended.
