Opinions? Pros Cons?

Anyone know the exact differences and practical differences between the 1000er and 1000dr power packs? Is it worth the extra $$$?

Last minute thoughts about these options as opposed to 4 Alien Bee 1600's due to reports of color temp inconsistency...

I use Novatron 1000s with the dr. Novatron at one time had a problem when the first digitals came out. They would reverse charge and fry the camera. The dr's are supposed to be digitally safe, but I still use an attachment on the hot shoe for connecting to my D1H. That is used to, I now use PocketWixard so there is no risk. I like the Novatrons but they do not have as many accessories for them as other companies do. Color balance has been consistent and warm which is to my liking.

Like Mike Hickey said get a PocketWizard or a Wein safe sync.

This outdoor shot was made possible with the PocketWizard's.

Without the PocketWizard I would have had a 20 / 30 foot cable to trip over. At any given time on this shoot there were four or five people around. And with water involved WELL YOU KNOW.

Its bad enough if the camera gets fried. But if you or a model gets fried.

Don't think it cant happen. A friend of mine David Slaughter was almost killed by a bad power pack that shorted out. Without water around inside in a studio. And no he's not stupid. He's a rocket scientist (not kidding here) David S. was also a teacher at Brooks Institute in SB.

I have a pair of older Novatron 400 w/s monolight and have not had any problems.

But I wouldn't get worked up over the AB "color inconsistancies". I've been using them for a while and noticed no shifts.

Until someone gets a colormeter and does some practical testing and shows some statistically relevent results I wouldn't worry.

Besides, you can always send the Bees back if you don't like 'em.
