what functions do you loose if you take out the CR123 liths... I am told you can still use the camera with just the AAs...

Other than that, the big thing is it eats the AA batteries at a hellish rate, and once the AAs get just so low, the viewfinder LCD goes out instantly when you remove your finger from the shutter release, and the camera kinda "limps along".

i don't care about pop up flash... I just ordered 2 Sunpak AA chargers w/ 8 AA Ni-MH 1800 MAH batts ...25$ per charger and 4 batts...

You can also modify an MB-16 to hold more batteries plus it gives you an extra 1 1/4" height for a better grip. At weddings I don't load batteries in the MB-16 since I rely on Quantum 2x2.

The 123's assist with autofocus (and VR) so you'll use up AA power faster without them. I believe the impact will be determined by the lens mechanics.

how do you moddify the MB-16

yeah i was looking at the 2x2 quantom may get one in time....right now i need to think cheaper

cause my parents are getting a loan to help....

It's a very simple modification. I used a flat file to remove the lip on the back edge of the MB-16 although some people are using Dremels.
