I know there will be many responses telling me to search the forums and suggested solutions but please humor me with a test first and let me know your results. Fuji insists the problem does not exist. The issue is when focusing at wide angle the background is in focus instead of the person.

I'll start by outlining our test procedures and requesting that you simulate it as close as possible.

Scenario #1 (in studio)
- background was a US flag mounted on a wall
- subject (person) 3 feet from background
- camera 8 feet in front of subject
- 3 different S2's each tested with 3 different Nikon lenses
- 24-120 D
- 24-120 VR
- 24-85 G
- spot and matrix metering tested
- zoom in and focus on the subjects nose (subject in focus)
- zoom out and focus on subjects nose (background in focus)

Scenario #2 (outdoors sunny early afternoon)
- the only difference was that we tested outdoor and the background was a brick wall.

Thanks in advance,
Israel

OK, let's see.... Yup, the focusing is just like you said given your test scenario, but not quite all the way to the bg (didn't have a flag handy), but still further to infinity. I have a Sigma 28-200, Nikkor 24-120 and Nikkor 24-85. Son of a gun...

Although, when I shoot, I always pick an edge without much of a Z axis difference. Guess that's why I never noticed that much and can explain the out of focus ones every once in a while. Hmmmmm

Could it be a QC issue with certain production runs???

I just got my S1 back today with electronics replaced, CCD cleaned and all systems checked/fixed - lets try it on that puppy.... Same problem... interesting given the S1 is N80 based and S2 N90 based.....

Hmmm.. No takers. I get the impression I'm the only S2 owner here.

My test above was on the S2, then on the S1.

Are you testing with the auto focus turned on? How bright is the area when you are doing the shots?
