Hello what is the proper sync cord to use with Studio Strobes? I have heard that voltage can damage camera. Thanks

My understanding is that it is not the cord, but the strobe system that is used. I am using the cord(s) that came with my Alien Bees. A funny note, I have no shortage of these things. I placed my order and I got a cord with each of the 4 lights. The synch function would not work through the remote, so I called them. I got a new remote, and the sent 4 more synch cords. I now have 8 cords, and only use 1 at a time. Plenty of spares to go with cameras, bulbs etc.

Yes it can.

If the cord or the pack gets shorted out you are in trouble. You should use a Wein Safe Sync or I prefer the Pocketwizard MultiMax wireless units that way there's no direct connection. Plus the with Pocketwizard you can move around without any restrictions. There are light meters that work with the Pocketwizard remotely as well.

I love it when I learn new things on here. I will have to get one of these cords. I had to save long enough to get my d60. I do not want to have to save again because I am using the wrong cord.

Hi,

The Wein Safe Sync Is not a cord its a device that goes in-between the camera and the cord. Its a fuse resistor like unit. I should have been more specific. There in the 50.00 to 70.00 range. But like you say its better than a fried camera.

See www.weinproducts.com http://www.weinproducts.com/safesyncs.htm

and http://www.pocketwizard.com/HTML/products.asp http://www.pocketwizard.com

I think its usually the cord wearing out that fries the camera but the power pack can go sideways too.

Don't use a synch cord, use a radio slave. I use a Quantum on a D-30.
