I have boxes of old negatives that I want to digitize and would like some opinions on affordable scanners that provide top quality results. Don't you love it - he wants "top quality" results from an "affordable" scanner!!

Thanks for your input!

I have the Minolta Dimage ScanDual III. It costs around $280, will scan up to 11 megapixels and the dynamic range is 3.5. I have been using it for about a year and have been very happy with it. This was scanned from a negative.

I've been using the old, reliable HP Scanjet 20. I read an article that highly recommended the new Polaroid scanner.

I assume that we're talking 35mm? If you want to scan film 120 or bigger, we're talking MUCH bigger bucks.

Thanks for the info! I was also looking at the Minolta Dimage Scan 5400. Of course, is costs about 3x as much!
Best wishes, Gus

Its image size (resolution?) is 5,232 x 7,800 pixels. Is that 40 megapixels and does it provide increased detail in the image?

Technically challenged.
