Very rarely am I cursing out myself for no power in the camera. Always a spare set of 123's and AA's around. Never have I run out.

BTW, Unique Photo now carrying Inifinity batteries, reasonable prices.

This I can't understand:

On my S2, batteries go up near 1,000 shots before the AA's kick out. On my friend's S2 purchased mere days after mine from the same store claims his lasts a few hundred. Same batteries (Energizer Alkaline AA, Energizer Litium 123s), same CF card used in both.

We compared everything including LCD Preview settings and viewing habits and only difference we could come up with is: he shoots the 3K rez setting and I was at 2K rez. Think that would make that much diff???

Could it be the AF lens motor draw? I had a Nikkor 24-120, he had a Tamron Zoom (24-120?).

could be the nikon has a much better efficiency in the lens focusing motor, a little diference there could add up to quite a bit.

You've just hit upon the biggest bugaboo about the S2 Pro: Body differences.

I know a dozen S2 users, and we've all had similar results. Either the AA's/CR123's last for a few hundred images at most, or it seems to go on forever. Nothing in-between. You've either got a miser or a glutton. I've got a glutton, especially on the 123's (they won't even last for 100 shots!)....thus the use of the converted MB-16.

Weird, isn't it?

Maybe my S2's warrany repair (crease marks in image) where they noted a CCD replacement has anything to do with power consumption. Don't know how it used to burn batteries as I was only a few shots into the camera before I sent it away.

Lens sounds more likely the culprit. I also have a Sigma 24-200 (don't like it as much as the Nikkors) and if I shoot enough with it and notice a diff, I'll let you know. Or if anyone else becomes aware - that would be helpful knowing how much I spent on batteries when I was using the S1 (4-pack a week, lithiums racks up to $520 a year). Nooo, I'm not that good or that busy... I was bracketing like heck and shooting every possible angle Crazy way to learn, eh? And I had a meter... go figure.

Woah! $500 on batteries!!

I have an S1 and I have 5 sets of rechargable AA so my expenses have been... hmmm $12 a pair... ( $60 ) and recharging them.

Why don't u get rechargables?

When I tried rechargables a couple of years ago in my S1, they only lasted about 10 shots no matter how new or how fully charged. I discovered they were not a full 1.5 volts (all the ones I saw were like 1.35 v) and figured rechargables were out of the question or the true 1.5 volt ones were even more expensive plus the charger. Also, at that time I didn't figure I'd end up taking so many photos.

2 years pass and now I switch between the S2 and D100. The D100 rechargable (Lithium ion) works great. And the S2 doesn't seem to burn batteries like the S1, so my cost for batteries now seems tit.
