A photog I know said he read this somewhere, he thinks, but can't remember where. Has anybody else heard anything about this?

I've been using sharpies on them for 2 or 3 years now with no problems. Except I did just recently get a bunch that were really hard to tell the front from the back. If you write on the back they don't work very well

I have never had a problem with this but I almost always use CD's that have a solid white surface. The text below is from Sharpie's website...

Is the SHARPIE marker safe for writing on CD's?

Sanford has used SHARPIE markers on CDs for years and we have never experienced a problem. We do not believe that the SHARPIE ink can affect these CDs, however we have not performed any long-term laboratory testing to verify this. We have spoken to many major CD manufacturers about this issue. They use the SHARPIE markers on CDs internally as well, and do not believe that the SHARPIE ink will cause any harm to their products.

I find that pretty hard to believe. Almost every single burned disc I have (all types, brands, etc.) are labeled with a sharpie and I have thousands. I have yet to find a disc that has gone bad over time. I've had pleanty that messed up during burning but once they checked out afterwards I've never seen one go bad.
