similar services...

I just had the chance to meet up with some professional photographers and ask them a few questions and most if not all of them seemed to feel that using services such as ezprints.com rather than printing on your own inkjet would result in "giving up all control over color" and essentially getting lower quality prints than you could print yourself. Not that I disbelieve them but I remember reading positive comments about ezprints here before. Is there anyway to minimize "giving up all control of color" when you send out for prints? The alternative some of these photographers mentioned were pro labs that charge about $20 for 8x10's - that's definitely not for me. I would have thought you could just call up one of these digital developers and find out what color profile they use and submit all your work under that profile and you'd be problem free but I suppose it's not that simple?

I would really like to get some nice 8x10's, my inkjet is garbage (and broken at hte moment) and I don't want to pay $20 a print but I also don't want to pay $3 a print if they're going to totally screw up the color as these other guys claimed...

I use Ezprints and save my files as "colormatch" profile, haven't had any issues with color. To get the correct brightness and contrast you have to make sure your monitor is calibrated correctly though. I would suggest making a test sheet with several images on an 8x10 size sheet and several bars of black to white gradations each with different levels of brightness, take notes, and when you get the sheet back, make adjustments to your monitor or working style so you'll know what to expect.

I am serious,

Sams clubs (that have photo labs) have decent machines for processing, they use the Fuji Frontier ?? printers.

You can even download the profile for the exact machine from a website, I cant remember which one, but Hackman may be able to tell you. They calibrate the profile once a week and upload it. You can download it, install it into Photoshop, use colour management to view as that profile and do all your colour corrections.

The output is very good and less than $3.00 for an 8x12

hope this helps.

David.
