Hmmm...Interesting, sounds like a great unit and has a lot features I'd love (especially the remote FTP) but since I already have Canon 10D with 6 Mp I don't think I could justify dropping my quality to get a few extra features that would be handy. I know that Nikon is probably gearing this more towards journalists and sports photographers but I hope they'll be coming out with a higher resolution version for all the people who need detail beyond mass media printing.

Hi Jayson,

Any idea on the cost of this beast? Also, which frame is it built on? F5/F4/F100/N80?

Good day sir!

Rick

The D1 is built on the F5 frame..... That's why the beasties are $5K!

Looking at the physical D2H it reminds me of the F100 or N80. Since it's a "pro" camera, I'd imagine the F100????

Jason???????

Bob,

I'm prett sure that the only camera built on the F5 is the Kokak DSC-720 or whatever it was. The D1 is either the N80 or N90 and Nikon has yet to build a DSLR on it's F5 frame. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It's too bad that the DH2 is only a little better, at 4 megapixel, image sensor wise than the D30. They're saying the new sensor is similar to the CMOS of Canon. Why come out with a new camera that is far behind the competition?

Just found it on B&H and Jason is correct. It's based on the F100.

Actually Marc the D1's are kind of a hybrid between the F100 and the F5. The frame is more like the F5 but the controls and buttons on the top as well as the veiwfinder are the same as the F100's.

The D2H looks like it incorporates some of the controls on the back from the D100 as well as some of it's styling, but the D1's and the D2H have nothing in common with the N90 and very little in common with N80.

Cheers,
Ernie

I know a couple photo editors who will be replaceing their original D1's with this camera. The D1H was a pretty good upgrade from the original but the investment cost hadn't been covered at that time, and later they were wanting a few more megapixels . Some of them have started using the D100 untill a higher megapixel unit was produced because they wanted more and the D1X isn't suited to jounalism that well. ISO 1600 is a must for us.

I bought a D100 to do commercial work and I love it, but I'd rather have the D2H for shooting news and especially sports.
