I walked into my camera store today to pick up some chemistry and paper, but what should I find but an Epson 2000P at a price which would make Epson cringe. Seems the store owner had 'found' it in his storeroom and sinmply wanted to get rid of it, as it had been discontinured and was taking up valuable space. Yeah, he actually does that on occasion! I walked in about 45 minutes after he set it out. I ALWAYS do research before buying equipment, but I knew this would be gone by the end of the day. Not being able to justify walking away from it, I bought it for about the same price as my existing Epson 785EPX.

Now for my question; did I phukup? I know nothing about this printer, which is sitting on the floor looking at me from within its still unopened box. Before settring it up and getting ink and paper, what can you guys who are into this stuff tell me about it. I know it will print 11x14 and I know how to prepare an image for printing in that size, but that's about the limit of my knowledge of this particular printer.

If I could get a 2000P for $250 less than the 2200, I'd get the 2200. I paid $700 for the 2000P and the 2200 is $699. I would definitly walk by a $450 2000P for the 2200...it"s really that good, and if you buy the 2000P, you will be delighted, but I'm pretty sure six months from now you'll want the 2200. Go for it!! You won't be sorry...unless of course you can afford the 7600...that sucker will pay for itself in a year or less...Hugh

I'm a bit reluctant to admit the price I paid, but I spent the day today mastering the 2000p's learning curve, which isn't really all that steep. I'm impressed, highly impressed. It has some quirks, no question about that, but for $225 there was no option but to buy it. It doesn't like a number of the papers I'm been using, but seems to absolutely love the Epson Water Color paper. With that paper, I see no sign of metamerism and its surface lends itself extemely well to my B&W images. They just don't look like digital prints and with Epson's promise of 100 years permancy, the prints hold their own with the wet traditional process prints I've been making. It really dopesn;t like glossy paper, not at all, but then my images look better on softer surfaces.

I had planed on getting a 2200 later in the year and probably still will, but for now and for 225 bucks, this one will do nicely! I have to say, I'm highly impressed with the 'look' of the 11x14 prints I made today.

were:

1) the prints have a green cast under certain lighting situations.

2) the prints don't have the vibrancy of the 2200 (or the 1270/80 for that matter).

However, try the Epson Heavy Weight Matte paper, I've heard that's the ticket.

Sounds like you got a steal.
