Hi,
been wandering about Nikon D700 or Nikon D3, which should be very similar in terms of performance...

In any case I'm interesting to know if we compare the Nikon D3/D700 to Canon 5Dmk2 that i have, what would be your comments or where which camera perform the best....for example the high ISO performance I found important...

I shoot mainly fashion, portraits and sometimes the landscapes....
Thanks....

Hmmm, if you already have the 5Dmk2 why are you looking at Nikon? This is not to bash Nikon but you have a really decent camera already.

Remember that it's not what you have it's what you do with it. In other words it's the person behind the viewfinder that makes the image...the camera is just the box that captures it.

^^^ Yes you are apsolutely right.... I have been usin Canon for years and I made great number of excellent photos but these days again I was testing Canons focus and it has its small problems while in the same time I tested a much older Nikon camera with less quality lens when Nikon won without any doubt and it wasn't small differances.

I want to buy along 5dmk2 another camera as back up camera and I decided to be Nikon in order to test this issue in the field also.....

... maybe I'm wrong but i'm also willing to try....

I've seen very beautiful imagery by photographers using nothing but a Pinhole camera, the ultimate in simplicity. I've also seen crappy images by photographers who have the latest and most expensive cameras, too. It's really a matter of the person looking through the viewfinder than what is in front of their eye that makes the image great.

I've been trying to keep up with all the development of the new technology over the years and read conflicting opinions by 'experts' as to whether a Canon or Nikon (or any other camera) is best...at that moment. Invariably one or the other manufacturer will come out with the latest "Wow" model which is then said to be 'the Best'. But even with that you'll find a few 'Cons' spoken about...something that the manufacturer has included...or removed...or not taken care of from previous versions...or something that the OTHER manufacturer has that THIS manufacturer has not. If ever there was to be an Ultimate camera made...the one that is Perfect...then I can see a mass movement over. Mind you that particular camera would probably be priced WAY out of the reach of the most customers so that any movement over would be far less than the pundits would probably say would happen.

I do like that you are "...willing to try...", I just question "Why?" You had earlier talked about "...high ISO performance...". I can only guess that you are trying to work without additional lighting. Back in the days of Film if you needed to work with diminished lighting you would choose a high speed ISO/ASA film knowing that you were going to get a lot of grain in your images. Nowadays the high ISO ratings of cameras has improved greatly but you're dealing with the digital equivalent of grain...noise. Noise is not the same though, it looks unnatural. This is not to say that high speed film's grain looked natural but I feel that noise does not enhance an image the way grain did.

In any case I would suggest that you find a place to rent the Nikon camera you are considering. Give that a try first. Asking for opinions will only give you conflicting information and ultimately you have to decide for yourself. The best way I can think of is to have it in your hand and play with it.

Good luck.

Yeah I decided to not make #3 a vintage film look and leave it as it came out of the camera...
