I have used up till now the substitution for pocket wizards the item produced by some other production firms from eastern markets which were not so reliable.

Now i would like to buy pocket wizard to have better and reliable transmitter/ receiver.
Since i do not have experience with pocket wizards, would like to know about the difference between the #1(blue type) and the second, bellow....

will first pocket wizard be suitable for use on Canon 5DMKII and 1DsMKII with flash 550EX, 430EX and AlienBees 1600

Would like to hear some of your suggestion and experience.

I was in your situation about six months ago. I had been using those cheapo Hong Kong wireless triggers that I bought on eBay for 5 or 6 years, and they worked flawlessly ... but over time, I broke a few (my fault) and couldn't find replacements that worked at the same frequency. One day I got frustrated and bit the bullet and moved from my $20 Hong Kong triggers to the PocketWizard Plus II (the black ones featuresd in your second link) ... and they work great.

My only complaints with the PocketWizard Plus IIs are ... they're not AC powered and they're kinda bulky. I hate having to remember to always charging up batteries before a shoot, but slowly I'm getting better about it. As for being bulks, the new PocketWizard Flex and TT1 are much smaller, and will be my next purchase.

If you don't have a lot of money for triggers, I'd recommend the AC powered eBay cheepos, but buy more than you need. If you have the cash, PWs are awesome.

Kinda bulky for sure; I used one at a seminar once, and it was like having a small point and shoot camera attached to the hot shoe. and that is why I chose this:

I believe it is about 1/2 the price of Pocked Wizard and the transmitter is very small. The transmitter and receiver use small batteries, and I have only replaced the battery in each one time in about 2 years.

I used the older Paul Buff wireless triggers for several years. They were pretty reliable. Two problems: one, they would occasionally fail to sync at at 1/250, producing a noticeable black curtain on the image. (This was intermittent, and solved by going to 1/125.) Second, one of the receivers would sometimes lose the frequency in the middle of a shoot and have to be reprogrammed. Buff replaced it, no questions asked and told me to just toss the bad one. It was this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_1101wt_900 I liked the (very) compact transmitter and paid (much) more than that auction.

A few months ago Cameta Camera via Amazon had a "two-fer" sale on the PW Plus II for $260. I took the plunge and so far I'm happy.

I still think the PWs are a little too bulky, but they are working flawlessly, with no sync issues. Are they worth it? Hard to say. I wouldn't have bought them without the sale.

But there are other reasons for going with the Pocket Wizards. They are pretty much "industry standard" and Sekonic makes a light meter that will trigger them.
