not sure if you had enough exposure to work with in the begining. the second looks kinda forced.

Obviously it was a hard image to work with. Still looks too soft for me, in the eyes especially, and some additional work where you lost skin tone in the front plane of the face, would be needed, I think. You might also try to bring out the eye color, in the iris, more.

Good work...doesn't look like my first, it was realy ugly! A couple of points to consider...when ever you soften with the gaussin blur or any of the recent plugins, make sure you bring back the eyes afterward with either a mask or your history tool. Sharp eyes will enhance any softened image...Later, Hugh

Ya it's a tough photo to work on. I've played with it here and there just isn't enough light in the eyes to bring the colour out without adding in so much noise that you loose detail.

I can get the skin to look smooth and soften the image some, but I'm having some trouble with not enough contrast vs enough light/saturation.

I hope you don't mind but here's what I came up with using the original image you posted.

I don't know if this what you're looking for as a final result, PS work is very much like photography in that the end result is always going to be subjective.

Anyway, I've stuck to using only the filters and tools that come with Photoshop 7. If you like what I've done I can send you the psd to give you an idea of some of what I did, and I'll add in some comentary to try and fill in the blanks. If you don't like this, then, hey, no problem. As I said, it's all pretty subjective.

I hope you don't mind, but I ran your original through my PS routine...tough working on a 72 ppi image but anyway this is what I wound up with...you might checkout Rolando's "Snapshots" section in the tutorials...later, Hugh

However, a simple one, is simply to select the iris and image adjust/brightness and contrast.

Thanks folks...........
