Well I had my Canon XTI for about 3 years now and have got the hang of it (thanks to Rolando's workshop). I'm looking to moving up to a better camera now that I'm looking to do some semi pro work. I'm on a very tight budget. I'm thinking about going with a 50D. I saw the new 60D but a lot of the reviews say it is more of a consumer than pro camera. Do you think the prices will drop on the 50D now that the 60D is out? Should I keep saving till I can afford a 70D? Is it a good idea to look into a used 50D? If that is a good idea where are some good places to pick up a used one?

The 50D is a good choice. I can't say much for the kit lens, so you might want to consider the L series, which is about the cost of the camera, depending on which one you choose.

I try to purchase as close to home as possible (if I purchase at a camera store), which is in the Metroplex in my case. Some say B&H is a good company to deal with, they have been around a long time. On the other hand, Best Buy has the 50D, and if you are in need of financing, they usually have 1 year, no interest.

I would never consider a used digital camera. The $ you spend is worth being the first user.

You never know who used the camera, how much it was used, or if they practiced "safe shooting". ...... I mean if the camera always wore a lens hood, to protect it...... from scratches.

You may want to look into the SONY 850 body. Great features and you can buy any old Minolta Maxuum lens to fit. B&H, Broadway or Camera Kings are good choices for purchase.

I'll throw this into the mix. I have never used the price of a camera as a major consideration when choosing a new camera body or any sort of camera equipment. Why you ask? Because the frustration of having a camera body that does not do what I want it to do is worth a lot. Check the features, consider what you want to do with your photography, and then choose the best body for that. If you don't have the money, save up for it, it'll pay off, and you most likely won't look back with any regrets.

First off, the xti is still a pretty nice camera, if it has all the features you need, then I would consider upgrading to better glass first. If you really want a new body then the 50D is an excellent choice. I personally don't have any issues with buying used. All but 2 of my bodies have been used and I've never had any issues and that's going all they way back to 1979. I've even bought a fair share of my lenses on the used market, but that does take a little more care. If your interested in going full frame, the original 5D is getting pretty close to the 50D on the used market. If you decide to go used, be cautious on ebay. I usually buy on the buy and sell board over at Fred Mirandas site: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/index.php

I second the Fred Miranda site, I have bought several Canon Bodies from there over the years (as well as Lenses, Lights and all kinds of other related items).

I would take the 50D over the D60 any day, Canon has re-thought their line and that line may dove-tail down towards the Rebels.

If you can't afford a used 1D MK II, go for the 7D...

And do go for Canon (and only Canon) L Glass...

Happy shooting
