I have to convert my Cannon format CR2 into Dng to use in Photoshop CS3. Is there any reason to save the CR2 copies? Thanks ahead.

Yes. Always a good idea to have the original images.

I just have the DNG's.
CR2 gets converted and imported in to Lightroom.

I just save the DNGs. When I just had PS CS, it wouldn't open the CR2s and I had to convert them all. Now I have upgraded to PS CS3, I still just keep the DNGs. It's a lossless conversion with the original image embeded, and is a more versatile format, as they can be opened on an older version of PS (as on my laptop!).

I look at the cr2 files as the negative. I don't throw away my negatives so why should I get rid of the cr2 files? Who knows what super duper software will come along in the future. We may be able to convert our original files into 3D life size holograms that talk and clean the kitchen sink! Silly I know, but the point is you never know what is coming around the corner.

DNG is a digital negative as well, just a different format.
Wonder if you can convert from DNG to CR2 :O
