I just got my ARB800 and I am trying to use it with my canon 24-70 2.8. I have read that you need to keep lens hood with this set up but once the camera is in the unit I can not fit the hood on the lens. Any help would be great.

Sucks, doesn't it? I borrowed an AB ring flash when they first came out and spent a month shiooting with it, then gave it back ... I didn't like how it handled. When I put it on my 28-70 it covered the entire lens, so I wasn't able to easily reach the zoom ring. That meant walking in and out to get different cropping. And, that was a pain because as you get closer ot the model, the exposure changes and get's brighter and you need to adjust your aperture. The ring flash worked best when it was on my 70-200 lens ... but you'd need very strong arms to shoot all day with that setup (Camera, grips, 70-200mm lens and ring flash).

The look of a ring flash is great for that one look, but I don't want ALL my images to have a ring flash look ... and it's cheaper for me to rent a ring flash whenever I want that look.

Try their new Moondish modifiers. It completes them.

I use mine on a tripod. don't like it mounted, as stated above, can adjust lens while this thing is mounted.
on a tripod with the moon unit, it works great as a main light.

why would you need the lens shade on the lens? The shade is to keep stray light out of the lens, if you have the light along the same axis as the lens no need for a shade.

That said, I do like to use edge light as my main and use the ring flash as fill, but still you shouldn't need the shade. If you move the lens back far enough into the unit, it actually works as a lens shade.
