wanting to get away from the cord tethering me from camera to the flash. This will be used for indoors prettymuch exclusively. Would this http://www.adorama.com/Als/ProductPage/WNPIRFT.html be a good remote for an umbrella Versalight J160 setup?

It should work with no problem. The older ones would trip them and they weren't as powerful.

I have a set of the wein IR remotes and the build quality is great. They have given me many years of good service. That being said, for $34 I think I would go with the radio system. Radios are more versatile since you don't have to worry about line of sight.

I've not heard of those radio triggers before so who knows. Cheap radio triggers are notorious for misfires or slowing down your sync speed. You can go here and ask about them on their discussion board. http://www.flickr.com/groups/strobist/, I'm pretty sure they are the largest group of lighting geeks on the planet. They'll probably know about them.

As long as you are in a studio and have a couple lights set up and all the slaves turned on the line of sight problem isn't a big deal, the IR will bounce around somewhat and trigger at least one of them which will get the rest of them.

Hope that helps,
