I am looking for a good LCD monitor. I can't afford a Lacie so something a bit less that is great for photoshop and has a good color range.

Thanks

Greg

I've seen a lot of low priced flat screens lately that look good for watching videos but not very good for editing photographs. Other than using a MAC I wouldn't know what to recommend. Would be interested to see what others might suggest though.

You want to find an IPS panel. One of the best deals out there is the Dell 2209WA for around $300. If you watch, Dell has sales on this monitor for the 225-250 range. Great deal for an IPS panel.

I have heard alot of really good comments on the current Samsung displays.
Depends on the price, but I think sub $400, a Samsung SyncMaster is a good choice. You can get a 23-inch model, such as the XL2370 for around $300. Usually the negatives you see on this model is the "ergonimics" of it. No height adjustments, and "wobbly" if bumped.
I have seen this specific display in action and its pretty nice. I have not viewed images on it though. Just normal Windows work flow in the office, and some DVD video on it.

Top LED monitors - CNet

http://reviews.cnet.com/4321-3174_7-...?tag=mncol;txt

The thing about all of these monitor reviews is they are aimed at...
-gamers (first)
-movies
-business

What I wish they would do is check for
-black point, white point (how black, how white)
-percentage of RGB gamut possible (there are a few monitors out there claiming near 98%!)
-ability to calibrate, ability to maintain calibration.
...in other words things that are important to photographers.

But we are small fish in an aquarium filled with Gamers.

I seem to remember someone saying what "IPS" meant before. But I don't remember what they said. So, what is IPS?

Thanks for your input so far. Because ot that I managed to talk to a tech guy at ViewSonic and he gave me info that led to this info.

http://www.pchardwarehelp.com/guides...anel-types.php

S-IPS/H-IPS (In Plane Switching) panels are generally considered the best overall LCD technology for image quality, color accuracy and viewing angles, but this comes at a price. They are well suited for graphics design and other applications which require accurate and consistent color reproduction. S-IPS panels offer the best viewing angles of any current LCD technology, with wide viewing angles up to 178 degress. The response time of S-IPS is adequate, ranging from 6ms to 16ms with current panels. This is only slightly slower than TN panels. However, gamers should take this into consideration. Fast paced games may suffer from motion blur or ghosting with S-IPS panels that have a response time higher than 8ms.

The Viewsonic VP2365wb has an ISP panel at 16ms response time. I am still searching but I feel I am finally on the right track.

LG LCDs tend to be nice.

What you want to avoid is a monitor that is "bright and colorful". While the idiot layman may like to view everything cooked to death, you want accurate color, brightness and gamma. So look for the monitor that is dim in the showroom, or can be set dimmer than others.

Get a Spyder to complement it.
