So far I haven't had a question someone couldn't answer on here so I'm hoping to keep that streak alive. I'm wanting to add a couple of lights to my collection. I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on these:

http://www.cowboystudio.com/product/c04/p0401-05.php

Do either of these seem like a good deal? Pros and cons of each? All advice appreciated!!!

well, the photbasics link doesn't work...

And the Cowboy studio stuff looks like it's overpriced for what they are selling. The stands are short on max height and long on closed height plus the background stands are kinda short.

I've seen some of the Cowboy Studio stuff on their Ebay store for less.

I don't know why the Photo Basics link isn't working. Here is what is in that package though:

(2) uLite Constant Lights
(2) 20" Collapsible Soft Boxes
(2) 7' Light Stands
(2) 500-watt Photofloods
FREE Coupon for a 5' x 6' week-long scenic background rental

$229.90

I guess my question would be... Lighting for what?

If you are talking a set just for learning purposes... I guess either of these might work. In addition to whats shown you can "jury-rig" some baffles and snoots and learn the effects that certain types can have on your subject. Just understand that both sets you link to are VERY limited and won't take you far. I think just a few more bucks for a basic 3 light setup would benefit you a whole lot more. Then you can at least have a main... a fill... and back/hair light.

just sayin...

I recently updated some of my older less powerful lighting with a large softbox powered by an alienbee 800. I am very happy with it so far.
