MAC -vs-PC for photography. What are the pros and cons? Does it really even matter?

Hmm, well, most of the good programs you'd need for photography are available on both platforms, so I think it comes down to which operating system you prefer. But, in my experience, the Mac OS is less buggy and more intuitive.

I have used both platforms for photography, video, and audio. By far, for creative purposes, a Mac will always be easier, run better, and be much more user friendly. The usual push back is cost and "I already have all this software for my PC.....". If you can afford a Mac that has everything you need and can let go of all the software you have that will run on XP (which most wont run on Vista anyway) then make the leap. You will wonder why you hadnt sooner.

My 2 cents....

I switched to Mac last year and have been extremely happy.

It's been an easy switch. Love the OS and the hardware is superior.

I will be the first to say... PC... but I will also say that a MAC will work just as good. I have used MAC for work as well as PC but have always been a PC guy at home.

Back in the day MAC was it for creative type work but not any more. For me this topic will soon be just as fun as the Nikon or Canon chats.

Get what works for you. Get your hands on the thing and use it you need to figure it out for yourself.

Well remember, In early 2006, Apple switched to an Intel architecture for their computer systems MACs use INTEL CPUs now.

so PC and MAC are defined by the software now, not the hardware.

It used to be MACs were considered the graphics machines and PCs the gaming PCs. Now, it's whatever one has the software you want to run. BECAUSE, the CPUs mac uses are the exact same CPUs that PCs use. no difference at all. So the Processing POWER is exact when it comes to the equipment.
( just to be thurough and clear here, if you own a mac that has a new 3.GHz quad core cpu, and a PC that has a new 3GHz quad core cpu, you could remove the CPUs and swap them into the other computer, and the computers would run fine.)

I'd have to say Mac all the way. OS is much easier and more reliable, Photoshop runs much faster, the hardware is far supierior and to think, you don't need to purchase any new software to convert, Macs do run Vista and XP - faster. It's just a matter of cost.

I use both Mac and PC. I do all of my work on Mac and I use a PC to view the images from a PC viewer perspective. Go with what you are comfortable with because there's no more graphical gap between both platforms.
