Okay, I was using Nikon D series lenses on my D70 and D200 bodies, and in low light, pics were slightly blurry from hand holding, as expected. So after reading how amazing VR lenses illegidly are, I bought one.
WHAT IS THE DEAL? It looks like it cranks up the ISO even though the camera doesnt register it doing so, annnd pics are still blurry, even more blurry it seems, when hand holding in low light, just brighter.?!?!?!?!!!

Now I know people will suggest larger aperature lenses, and yes I am going to purchase them now. But why is VR lenses toughted as so great, when as far as I can see, they are not?
( Am venting the anger, and also wanting to know why?)
The first pic is with NO VR, and the second one is with vr turned on. These pics are right out of the camera unedited in any way. The second one is only brighter not any sharper

could ya post the pics with exif data? I own a few VR lenses and like them. They don't turn water into wine but they have allowed me to make a shot that would be much harder to do otherwise. From what you're saying, sounds like you may have auto ISO on.

What lens are you shooting?

VR is not going to change a 70-300mm lens into the 70-200mm f/2.8...

I do not expect it to change it into such. I did how ever expect it to show improvement over the D series lenses that do not have VR. But so far. Not liking it.
The 55-200mm VR lens was used for the photos.

But before you start blaming the lens, you might want to review your camera settings. It appears your exposure compensation was set to +2EV. That's two stops overexposed. With an inexpensive ($250) lens, getting proper exposure, focusing, and optimal aperture will go a long way to getting sharp images.

Back to VR... The shutter speed shows at 1.6. You cannot expect any vibration compensation system to produce crisp images at that slow of a speed. VR will give you 1.5 to 2.5 stops at the very best. Instead of f/10, maybe try f/8 or f/5.6 and you'll get a much faster shutter and crisp images.
