Hey Guys,
Ok, so here are my two dumb questions. 1. When i try to use ratio for example like a 3:1 I meter my main and then I meter my fill to get the ratio I want. Then what usually happens is when I set my settings to match my main, my image is usually way over exposed WTF? My second dumb question is, lets say I am outside and using two lights. Lets just say for arguments sake that max on each light will give me f-11. So If I have to lights at a 1:1 ratio would I really get f 11 or am I doubling or more, the quanity of light?

2 lights aimed at the same place at f:11 will give you a working aperture of f:16. Meter each light to get your ratio, then meter the over all to get the working aperture. You'd have the same effect if one light was f:11 and the other was f:4, but the overall would be f:11.2 (f:11 1/8th) or something close to that. The lights are cumulative.

oh BTW, I think you're questions were asking the same thing in both so I only answered once. So yeah, you are doubling your light with both at 1:1 with overlapping coverage.

Here's a bit more info on lighting ratios on one of my blogs.
