At $24,499 I think I will have to pass on this one. Will probably have to use some of that price tag towards another car someday.

Darn. At 35 lbs., I would probably have to get a new tripod too. That puts it out of budget for me.

I talked to a sigma rep last summer, he said there are like five of them total and National geographic owns two of them. You buy one, then they make it.

Its also HUGE. I use a Celestron C5 telescope as a lens and its smaller than this thing.

Hey, I am a Canon guy, but I noticed I could get a NikonD40 for $500, and that lens, and still only have $25,000 invested. I really need to consider moving UP to Nikon!

Wait.. I figured the shipping charges and that comes to around $135.. Darn, that takes it just over my budget.

I have to ask, can I get along without it? You betcha! For 23 grand, I can walk closer.

LMAO on that one! Geez, wonder if I should talk to Sigma about a sponsorship but even if they did, I'd have to say no cause I have enough extra weight and bag charges at the airport already. The way I figure it, if I took it to 30 workshops in one year, at an extra $100 each way for extra baggage, that's ummm, 30 x 100 = 3000 X 2 = 6,000 extra dollars and if I did it for 4 years, that's $24,000. Darn, guess I would pay twice for it in four years, not worth it, I'll take Doug's advice since I don't shoot polar bears and beautiful women instead, I'll move a few feet in closer with my prime lens...besides, it's F/1.2, much better glass... Thanks, rg sends!

Saw the prototype at PMA 2007.

They won't let anyone near it.

I think it was non-functional model.

Told the Sigma rep that if they priced the lens around $20,000, I'd consider buying it.

The Sigma would replace the following lenses I have in my battery.

300 f/2.8 IS - $3,500

400 f/2.8 IS - $6,200

600 f/4 IS - $7,300

1.4x Teleconverter - $250

Oh and let's not forget the 70-200 f/2.8 IS - $1,700

So I can replace 4 lenses with just 1.

But there are two problems with the 200-500.

I can handhold all the Canon lenses but there's no way I can handhold the 200-500.

It weighs around 35 pounds.

The second problem for me is the Sigma's color, when you see the green in person it looks really goofy, and I won't want to be confused for a Nikon shooter.

They should have painted it white.

Now that the proper color for a super tele.
