RIGHT!

Like my Dad told me a long time ago, "It's always better to be protected, than to be sorry!"

Exactly, while it's costly to buy the filters, it's cheaper than buying the new lenses.

B+W skylights have been placed on the end of ever lens I've owned; never been sorry for it!

When i first started in photography and sold cameras and lens, about 30 years or more ago, my answer was yes. I will then proceed with a disclaimer, if you follow my advice from this point on, you do so at your own risk.

Today, not really, unless UV/haze is prevalent on the scene. Why? Because a great lens is only as good as the last piece of glass in front of it and I don't want to shoot through glass that wasn't put there by the manufacturer.

What I do know, when I worked in the camera stores way back then, filters had great mark-ups like most camera accessories and there is no real mark-up on camera bodies and lenses. Camera stores make more money off point and sell products and accessories than anything else. Keep that in mind with all the creative marketing.

However, they are a great piece of insurance if you drop a lens, as I did once, but that's been, many, many, many years ago and "knock on wood" I don't do that again. If I had too choose a filter today, it would be B&W, great glass. Just my thoughts, but be very careful if you don't use one with your lenses. All the best, rg sends!
