Another thread got me to thinking about glue, and I remembered something I was going to research but never did. Anyway, I'll ask here and see if anyone has an answer.

Basically, what do you use to "glue" feathers, sequins, "diamonds", etc. to a model's face? It has to be easily removable, preferably non-allergenic, non-toxic, etc...

I was thinking the stuff gals use to hold on false eyelashes, but realized I had never actually seen such a product. The false eyelashes I've seen recently come prepped with something already.

You can still find the adhesive for false eyelashes - I just checked www.sephora.com, where it's offered for $8.50 a (tiny) tube. Or check with one of the on-line suppliers of theactrical make-up. Insofar as I know, that would be the adhesive of choice.

I did a shoot where the model covered herself with clear sequins and after shooting for an hour or so, she took a long shower and got them all off without any major problem and she used eyelash glue to put them on, including her face. ...brave girl...grins

Thanks John...

Here's a way around ordering it. If your local discount place or chain drug store carries Maybelline cosmetics, look and see if they have the Maybelline false eyelashes. They come in a small box which includes a small tube of the adhesive and you get both the eyelashes and the tube of adhesive for about $6.00. Of course using the adhesive for feathers, sequins etc. will use it up. I suspect the eyelashes only survive three or four wearings anyway.

Many of the false eyelashes come on an adhesive strip. Obviously having the adhesive on it makes it easier to use, but doesn't help when you want to do something different.

I did a Google and found some places offering spirit gum for about $2 for a small bottle. If you have a theatrical supply place in your town, they might have that.

I was trying to find something readily available that fit the safety criteria. I'd be afraid of the medical adhesive, office grade rubber cement, and super glue...

If you have enough patience, good old white polyvinyl acetate glue - Elmer's - would work for sequins, etc. I wouldn't use it near the eyes, though.

I personally would be more inclined to hit the local Walmart or such and buy glue for cheap fake lashes, like the Maybelline you mention. I suspect that, in these litigious times, any corporation making an adhesive for eyelashes has given at least some consideration into safety.
