So I bought this new AB power pack...

Followed all the directions getting it ready, blah blah blah... Next day, come home and take it off the charge and plug a mono light into it. Charges up, fan comes on, all looks good. One test fire out of a 320w/s head and *POP*-flame-smoke... ****. Anybody had one? Any ideas? Believe me, they are getting a phone call bright and early tomorrow.

Any piece of hardware can go bad, or even be dead on arrival. Every company has that same history. I can remember buying three epson printers (brand new) from a local retailer and they were all three dead on arrival.

Fortunately Alein Bee has a good warranty and they'll replace the unit for free and even pay the shipping.

I assume this is one of the new Vagabond II units --- is that correct?

Yes, it is a new Vag II. I hope they will have it to me by Friday as I need to use it this weekend for an event... I will post up how they handle it, for sure.

Everything should go smoothly. PCB has excellent customer care. I've had the Vagabond I since it first came out, years ago. Other than replacing a battery, it has worked flawlessly in all that time.

I just got off of the phone with AB's. A sub-five minute conversation explaining what happened and verifying the address. Said they are going to send me a new one out today so that I have it to shoot my event this weekend. So, guess I can't complain!

Although I'd love to have better lights, I have no complaints about Buff customer service. I was shooting out of town and needed an additional light. Despite being several hours past the "overnight" deadline, they said they would try to get it out to me. It was at my hotel the next morning.

On another occasion I had a remote receiver (the cheapie one) that was DOA. They sent out another and told me to just toss the bad one.
