Does anybody here have a Nikon D3? I'm putting in an order for one today, and I've heard everyone who has the D300 likes it, but haven't heard much about the D3 though. Just wondering what any owners out there thought of it.

Hey Sam --

Scott Watters with Polo Digital on this forum just got one ... but he's probably too busy shooting with it to spend time on this forum. YOu could PM him and ask about his experience with it.

Hey! I resemble that remark

The D3 is head and shoulders above my older D200, but then again for 2.5x the price I would expect it to be. It is the camera I've been waiting for from Nikon. The larger sensor really allows me to shoot the focal lengths I want in the space I have available and of course the natural light performance will allow me to go into a different direction that previously possible.

I'm no expert and won't give a review, but after a couple of weeks getting to know this body, it is really helping me to improve my work.

Nikon D3, Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR
ISO 200, f/5.6, 1/125 @ 170mm

Hey Sam,
I've heard from a few people who field tested it, and others who own one, and let's just say..... it's worth every last cent, outstanding camera, excellent high ISO performance ie much lower noise, and the full frame sensore performs extrememly well.

Scott -- Cool. Yeah I had pretty much made up my mind before I wrote to you, and now you just tipped me over the edge.

Now if I can just find someplace that has it in stock, lol.

Isaiah -- Yup, the full frame sensor and the performance at high ISOs are THE selling points for me.

Hey everybody, just thought I'd post a quick update. I just put in my order for a D3. Absolutely nobody has one in stock though, so now I just have to wait a few months to get it, heh.

I've got one. I'm doing a running "what I think about it" kind of thing here. I update it every so often with more info.

Over all I think this camera kicks ass. So far the only thing I've found that I really don't like is that it doesn't show the focus point that is selected on top of the camera anymore.

Hey Ernie, thanks for that link! Reading your impressions on it was very helpful, and I'll be checking back every so often, too.
