I have a Hensel Porty system am I am wondering about all the accessories. I know you can use softboxes and umbrellas from other manufacturers if you have the correct speed ring, but what about the grids and barn doors? The only grids B&H has in stock is the set of 3 for $95 and the 10 degrees for $40. The barndoors range from $63-219 and they aren't in stock. $63 seems a bit steep for a piece of thin lightweight metal that blocks the light and the grids look like they go in the reflector that I already have so I wonder if someone elses grids that are cheaper would work.

Thats often the problem with the high end systems, the accessories are very expensive. But grids usually are expensive. I have a set of 4 grids for my ABs, that I also use with my Novatrons. They are $99 for the set of 4 from AB. I have two sets of barndoors but almost never use them. I find snoot more useful or cinefoil even more so.
Cheers,
rfs

Do you use all the different grids in the set or do you mainly just use one?

From time to time I use them all. It depends on how much light spread one wants for a given shot.
Cheers,

I just bought a Speedotron grid for my Hensel's. It was the 7" size, fit fine. I was in NYC and at B&H, so I was able to just try them in Hensel reflectors.

They'll work just fine with a little artfully applied gaffer's tape.
