I'm wondering if anyone has seen this hapen before? The bottom of the image is looking like it's not getting exposed ? I'm fairly certain that it's a shutter issue, and Im planning on shipping it back to Nikon for repairs, but i'm wondering if anyone had any suggestions before I do that ?

This is what it looked like when the shutter exploded on my D2H...Compare and draw your own conclusions.

D2H? I bet yours cost more to repait than my D50 cost to purchase. I did get some 60k photos out of it so I'm not too bitter...

I got the exact same thing on my rebel XT some months ago, and I just shaked it a bit and it went back to normal, I dont know if it was the sensor frame moving out of its socket or the shutter but I am glad it worked

(on mine the dark area was always of the exact same size with a blurry border like yours)

I pulled your images down, the EXIF data showed manual mode, F/stops of 4.1, 5.3 and 4.2, respectively, but no shutter-speed info. The first glance reminds me of "out of sync flash/shutter-speed" but you obviously used no flash.

Not sure, as I don't know that camera, but I am curious what the shutter value was, it would have to be at least (at ISO 100 using the sunny-sixteen rule) 1/1000th. Not sure, never seen that before unless flash was involved, which obviously didn't happen here. All the best, would love to know, rg sends!

Wow, thanks for taking the time to look. I pulled up the raw files and looked at the data... the shutter in the first shot was 1/2000 , in the second it was 1/1250 and in the third it was 1/200

The camera is a Nikon D50, and someone else mentioned that the exif data shows around 60K actuations, so it could just be getting worn out ?

not sure... Havent had time to take it to the dealer yet, hopefully that will get taken care of this weekend
