I'm considering upgrading from my AB800 to the Hensel 500 Pro. The main reason is the bee scares me when I use my 5' octobank on it. It seems like it doesn't lock down tight enough and the softbox will drift down sometimes. That & it will sometimes just fire on its own for god knows what reason. But anyway My question is will the Alien Bee wireless transmitter and reciever work with the Hensel? I just recently purchased the reciever that attaches between the pwr cord and the unit. Here's a link http://www.alienbees.com/rft1.html. I'm just curious how much more i'll have to invest if I swap. Thanks.

No expert here, but it looks like it should work with a 1/4 to 1/4 adapter (hensels use the larget synch plugs). Looking at the picture it appears to be using the power cord connection to power the rcvr. Then there appears to be a synch plug to the strobe. I'd recommend checking the strobe synch input details to verify the working voltages work in both units. You can email the Hensel tech guys and they will typically be pretty helpful.

I recently had to send a Hensel unit in for maintenance. It was taking 30 sec or more to load the capaciters to the point where it would fire. The tech folks at Danielle Inc (Hensel USA repair site) were very fast to respond with emails.

Cheers.

Well to update this trhead, I made the dive & bought the Hensel. WOW, it's definitely a leap, hop & skip ahead of the AB strobe I have. The build quality is far above what I expected. I'm not worried about it falling apart when I connect the pwr cord like my AB. But i'm not trashing the AB though, I plan to use it as a background light. After all I did put money into it I might as well find a use for it. I'll definitely be getting the 2 light Hensel kit later on. Oh yeah, also the AB wireless trigger works fine with the light also. Saved me a few extra bucks reusing it. If your undecided about the Hensel's, don't worry you will not be disappointed.
