I have over 250,000 images on my D100 and just added another 500 images this afternoon. Think the new D300 will give me that kind of mileage? here are a few images from the last two weeks ... taken with my 5 year old D100.

You know, back in April when I bought my D2Xs, I knew this was going to happen, but after verifying the info thourgh www.nikonusa.com, I know that my D2Xs will still hold up quite well, it dosn't seem that outside of the drop of .3 megapixels isn't a significant drop, but the increase in 4fps is a good thing, but not one that will make me run out to buy one. 5fps suits me fine for the time bieng quite well, espeically since I don't do sports much at all. Not a huge improvement overall in my opinion, and I am a Nikon fan.

Man Isaiah, I thought I had run on sentence issues but you top me. I wouldn't bust your chops for english issues but I don't understand the logic on this thought. I do understand the gist which is you're not excited about the D3 but the argument is vague here.

I shoot a D200 and I'm not rushing out to buy the D3 or D300 but I do think, and I've read many other opinions, that they are significant upgrades. If I were a PRO with a lot of expensive full frame glass, the D3 would rock my world again. Even if I didn't have a lot of expensive non-DX glass, the ability to have 3 high quality lenses from 14 to 200 at 2.8 speed would be exciting.

Yeah, for me the D3 makes absolute sense... Full frame, high ISO's (which I shoot at a LOT) and being able to use my 17-35mm, 85mm & 180mm how they were meant to be used, again!

Ditto here. That's why I have one on order already

Don't you love the 180mm f/2.8 for headshots on 24x26?

Oh yes, I love the 180mm period... especially its size and weight... The 70-200mm went un-used just because it's too big and heavy... And the 85mm gets a ton of use anyway--I don't see the 85mm coming off the D3.

shooting mostly birds, I don't want to give up my free 1.5x.
or my expensive DX glass.

OK so I have to stand in the driveway to shoot the model in my garage.
[grin]

I'm glad Nikon has a full frame camera, hope they release a D301.5 with the smaller size sensor for us wildlife guys though..

The D300 is a DX sensor. The D3 is 24x36mm.

You do realize the smaller sensor is just a crop. Wait for the D3X and you'll start with 18-21MP and DX crop mode will still be 9-11MP. Just a guess, but I'll bet that one is going to be near the cost of the 1DsMkIII ($8K). Ouch!
