Finally, after almost 2 months of waiting, I got my Hensel lights! My bees are going on e-bay this weekend

I want to keep my AB softbox and the AB speedring looks the same as the Hensel speedring, except for the part that actually connects to the flash head (is it called the speed ring adapter?) By the way, the 2 softboxes look like they came from the same factory in China. Even the tags on the softbox bags are identical.

So I am thinking that all I will need to do is buy the "speed ring adapter" and attach it to the AB speedring, and I am ready to rock, except for one tiny problem, I have not clue where to start looking for such a thing. I looked on B&H, Adorama, and Samy's websites and can't find anything.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Igor

Just a wild thought - contact whomever you purchased the Hensels from and ask for the correct speedring (yeah, that's the right nomenclature for it) for your light. You did buy it through a dealer, right?

I'm missing something here... You say the AB speedring looks like the Hensel speedring. How do you know if you don't have the Hensel? It must be a picture in a catalog or maybe a picture that came with the units.

Anyway, I second the notion that you contact whoever you bought the units from.

Now then, you may get a pleasant surprise... the AB speedring is about $30, the Hensel may be considerably more. I've casually looked at some rings for other studio flashes and they seem outrageously expensive to me, some going for over a $100.

Love dem Bee's...

I went over to the B&H site and did a search for "Hensel". It comes up with 8 pages of stuff including about half a dozen different speedrings of different ilks. You musta looked in the wrong place... Unfortunately, most of them are "Out of Stock"

sorry but I would dump the AB Softbox & Speed Ring too and go with a Photoflex Softbox and a Photoflex (not Hensel) Speed Ring, got both at B&H for my Hensels...

This is like buying a Beemer and keeping your Honda wheels...

If you are interested, I am selling:

2 AB800s
2 Soft AB Carrying bags
2 Translucent Umbrellas
2 Silver Reflective Umbrellas
2 Light Stands
1 AB 4 Channel wired remote control

The light stands and the umbrellas are NOT alien bee, but are some no-name brand.

I was just getting ready to put it on e-bay, but if anyone here is interested, the current going price on e-bay for a package like is around $600. So I will sell for that much plus $30 to ship it inside the US.

The reason I know that they look the same is because my Hensel kit came with a small softbox that has a speedring. I compared the 2 speedrings and they are almost identical except for the "speed ring adapter" part, the small solid inner ring.
