Just an opinion poll here. If you had to choose ONE photography magazine to subscribe to, which would it be. I want to know what you think the STRONGEST OVERALL publication is.

Gotta go with "Photography Monthly". It's a British magazine. Besides always having a great looking female celebrity on the cover it has, over the past several months, tips on how to shoot portraits, lens choices, action photography etc.

The publications have changed dramatically in recent years, and although most have strengths and weaknesses, it would be hard to pick a "best" one, because there's too many about equal.

The best technical journal, is probably ViewCamera, which is geared towards the large format specialist.

The best portrait journal is probably Rangefinder, which is widely read by portrait photographers.

The best commercial journal is probably Studio Photography, but it still has a long way to go to be a "top" publication.

The best general publication......well, there just isn't a good one.

The best NYC news is still PDN, of course, but then if you aren't located in NYC, do you really care?

Hi, Hugh from San Antonio...interesting question. I don't have an answer because I get them all at one time or another. The one that I use absolutly use the most is not realy a photo mag..it's the NAPP publication "Inside Photoshop"
Having read almost as many magazines as are in print, I believe I am qualified to say that this forum and website combined with the ZUGA site will provide you with more info and support than any of them, or all of them combined. Since joining I only get PDN and NAPP. You really can't go wrong here. The tech guys review just about everything that is posted and I have noted that they are quick to correct misinformation. The ease with which the pros on this site share secrets and information is unprecedented in the profession. I think that most of them understand that we do not compete against each other and that there are huge markets out there that are for all practicle purposes untapped.

I picked up a copy of American Photo, and I thought "these articles are kinda lame" I did see one article that I liked, and an ad for a printer. I thank everybody for their response.

I do alot of learning on here. I sometimes have to spend hours to catch all the posts that I missed while at work.

The photography inspires me to learn great photography.

While there are certainly other "photographic" magazines which focus on technique, equipment, and lighting...........Playboy inspires me.

I realize there are other "styles" of photography to be replicated and to learn from, but you said I could only pick one.

Buy a man a fish.......feed him for a day.........teach a man to fish.......feed him for a lifetime.

All the equipment, gear and whatnot are ultimately purchased for what purpose? To fulfill your photography dreams and goals.

What made you want to pick up a camera. Was it an article about the number of lines per mm resolution of a lens, or a stunning photo you saw one time?

I hope you see my point.

While it is important to learn, learn learn,...........what is your purpose.
