Howdy,
I am purchasing one of these units to use with my Speedlite 430's. I was wondering; however, if I can use the St-e2 to trigger my other monolights. Any one know if this is possible. Thanks.

I own one of the transmitters and used it once, lol. As far as I know it will not, least it will not fire my AB's. I might work on studio lights that have an IR reciever on them.

You might be able to use it as a trigger if you use all manual settings on the 430's. In other words, trigger the 430's and let the 430's trigger the other lights. (TTL will definitely screw things up because of the pre-flash.)

I have have used them with limited success triggering my white lightning and alien bees which also have IR receivers. I have had some issues with the sync timing though where they sometimes fire after the shutter is closed. I have been going to set it to second curtain sync and play with the shutter speed to see if it becomes more reliable but I haven't had the time.

are you planning to use this while shooting ETTL or in Manual? Either way, the pre-flash is your enemy. You'll need to cover up all but one of the contact points (the 4 small ones) on the hot shoe to get around this. I've done this using a very small piece of tape. I'm not familiar with the 430. Does it have Manual setting? Personally, I'm not a big fan of IR triggering as its line-of-sight. Good luck trying to get it to work outside in daylight.

Alien Bees/White Lightning now has a radio transmitter receiver combo for triggering their flashes that is only $40 each. The transmitter mounts of the camera hotshoe and the receiver fits between the light and the power cord with a lead that connects to the sync cord port. It is a pretty simple sytem and although I haven't had time to test it extensively, seems to work well.
